Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear St. Peter Parish family, 

It has been wonderful meeting with so many of you in our parishioner gatherings, also known as “Dessert with Fr. David.” I am noticing that the larger the gathering, the less chance I have of remembering your name, which makes sense. But I’m trying my best! One of the things I have noticed on my own about our parish, from the first few days of being here, is that we have need of generous souls to volunteer for some of our crucial ministries here, especially ministries connected to the Mass and other liturgies, such as altar servers, sacristans, altar society members, lectors, choir members, ushers, and so forth. I think it has been a while since our parish has opened up its ministries to new faces, so it’s time! Now, I can’t do everything at once, but I’m starting with altar servers since the new school year is coming, and if you have a certain ministry you desire to be part of, I am happy to meet with you and discern that possibility, even before we host any official trainings. As for altar servers, I’m opening up registration to any Catholic child third grade through twelfth grade. Also, if any college-aged young men want to form an altar server team, that would be awesome! Just sign up! We will have a training for all altar servers, new and returning, on Saturday morning, September 12, so save the date! More details to come. 

Take a moment to think about the ways you might be interested in being involved in helping. Maybe you would like to help set up for funerals, or start a teen choir that sings four-part harmonies. Maybe you see something that isn’t currently being done, that you would like to suggest, or even take that responsibility yourself. Whatever it is, come talk with me about it. All our current volunteers will tell you that being involved in their ministries is incredibly rewarding! And many hands make light work, so if you’re worried about “getting stuck” as the only person doing something, well, I think the point of this recruitment is to get multiple people involved in each ministry, so everything doesn’t fall on the shoulders of one or two people. I can’t wait to hear from you!
